Location: Office based at Granta Park, Cambridge UK  

Salary range: £28,000 – £35,000 per annum 

Functional area: Operations 

Reports to: Head of Supply Chain 

Job Type: Full-time, 9 months FTC

Sphere Fluidics, a leader in single cell analysis and isolation technologies, seeks an experienced Senior Assembly Technician to join our growing team.

The Role 

The company is growing quickly, and we are looking to take on an experienced Senior Assembly Technician to support the Operations team. This role will be mostly laboratory based, with an emphasis on electromechanical assembly, SOP writing and maintaining a well organised workplace. The role will also provide support to the wider Operations team and other areas of the business on an ad-hoc basis. 

 

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Assembly Technician to upgrade our advanced Cyto-Mine® single cell analysis and monoclonality assurance system to the latest version. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience with delicate instrumentation assembly and electronics. Previous experience with optical assemblies is desirable, as well as strong troubleshooting and repair skills with the ability to document procedures and write SOPs in real-time. While training will be provided, we seek an individual capable of independent operation with a solid background working with electronic, electromechanical, and advanced laboratory instrumentation. The Senior Assembly Technician will report to the Head of Supply Chain and will assist with various tasks within the Operations group as needed. 

 

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, keen to learn and develop new skills, as well as having a keen eye for detail. A structured approach to their work is important, as is excellent adherence to procedures, high quality standards and Health & Safety. The role of the Senior Assembly Technician is varied and as part of a rapidly growing company there is scope for learning and progression within the business. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Upgrade and assemble Cyto-Mines® to the latest version, ensuring all components are correctly integrated and functioning. 
  • Troubleshoot and repair any issues that arise during the assembly and upgrading process. 
  • Write, update and maintain essential process documentation including SOPs, CAPAs and build records. 
  • Liaising with other departments to measure, record, correct and prevent technical issues.  
  • Recording results and keeping records including the QMS up to date.  
  • Maintain detailed records of all assembly, testing, and troubleshooting activities. 
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards throughout the assembly process. 
  • Provide training and support to other team members as needed. 
  • Continuously seek ways to improve assembly processes and contribute to product development initiatives. 
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate safety procedures in collaboration with the H&S department. 
  • Implement and maintain 5S methodology in the workspace to ensure a clean, organized, and efficient working environment. 
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the wider Operations group as required. 

 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Minimum A level education within an Engineering discipline. 
  • 3 years’ experience in electromechanical assembly, test or repair environment. 
  • Experience in developing assembly processes, identifying flaws, and consistently enhancing documentation for electromechanical, electrical, and electronic instrumentation would be highly advantageous.  
  • ISO9001 experience preferred, GLP/GMP also advantageous. 
  • Confident presenting KPIs and other updates at weekly team meetings. 
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are essential.
